Hello! I'm Kate and I'm a Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist, having trained and qualified with the Institute for Soft Tissue Therapists (ISRM). I am also a Level 3 Classical mat-based Pilates Instructor and run classes for runners and tennis players in Sidmouth, as well as offering private, one-to-one sessions.
Soft tissue therapy is a gentle and effective hands-on treatment that can help restore quality of movement and alleviate persistent pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, lower back pain, fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder and occupational or emotional stress.
Unlike a lot of other therapists, I see my role as one of client-led teamwork rather than a more prescriptive 'you must see me every week/fortnight/month'. You know your body better than any other person. For many of my clients, one treatment is enough to experience pain relief and regain confidence in doing the things they enjoy.
That said, I have a lot of success in treating people suffering with long-term chronic pain conditions or ongoing stress and many of my clients enjoy a regular treatment every 4, 6 or 8 weeks.
I run my clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays from a room at the Sidmouth Hospice at Home day centre in Church Street, Sidford (at the back of the Spar car park). There is plenty of parking (40p per hour) and easy access for all.
Whether you've tweaked a muscle weeding the garden, suffer with chronic lower back pain, or have sprained your ankle running a muddy trail, soft tissue therapy can help relieve tension and alleviate pain. Why not give it a try!

Soft tissue therapy involves the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of minor and chronic soft tissue injuries and dysfunction. Soft tissues include the deep and superficial muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and other fibrous connective tissue.
Treatments include a number of advanced hands-on techniques, of which deep tissue massage is just one component. So, if you're just looking for a spa-type Swedish massage or aromatherapy massage,
soft tissue therapy isn't for you!
Your treatment may include soft tissue release, myofascial release, trigger point work, muscle energy techniques, positional release and/or kiniesiology taping. In short, whatever works best to quickly get you back on your feet and doing the things you love.
Persistent, chronic pain can have a major detrimental impact on day-to-day life, affecting your mood as well as your mobility. And yet, often, there is little a GP can do except prescribe you pain-killers.
Soft tissue therapy allows you to regain control and take positive action. As well as receiving relieving deep tissue treatment, I will work with you to restore your confidence in movement by guiding you through simple functional exercises that you will help you regain strength and stability.
As a qualified aromatherapist I can now combine the therapeutic power of essential oils with your soft tissue treatment for extra impact. Whether you'd like to try the analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of black pepper, peppermint and basil, or the soothing and calming properties of lavender and frankincense, I will make up a massage oil tailored to your needs.
Whether you have a sprain, strain, bursitis, plantar fasciitis or a tendinopathy - or are perhaps waiting for an MRI scan - soft tissue therapy will help you maintain maximum possible range of motion, speed up the healing process and strengthen surrounding soft tissues to reduce the chances
of re-injury.
Want to reduce your reliance on pain-killers? If you're living with chronic pain - whether a debilitating back problem or a condition such as fibromyalgia or Parkinson's Disease - regular soft tissue therapy can help calm your nervous system and restore your confidence in movement so that you feel more in control of your situation.
Secured a place for the London marathon? Plucked up the courage to take on an Ironman? Whatever your sport, and whatever your event, regular soft tissue therapy throughout your training programme will help maintain healthy muscles and give you chance to nip any niggles in the bud, allowing you to train and compete at your best.
